Change.org Community
In addition to direct donations online using Paypal, we are also part of the Change.org community. Our site on Change.org is another way you can donate to the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy. Change.org works hard to help nonprofits use social media to reach out to new supporters and volunteers. This link tells you the benefits to using change.org for your online giving portfolio. When you click the button below, you will go to our Change.org site where you can join or donate to us. Because our involvement in Change.org is new, we also wanted to tell you a bit more about this community.
Change.org “raises awareness about important causes and empowers people to take action with leading nonprofits.” There are a number of causes listed along the top of the menu bar when you visit the site. And if you click on the “more” button on the right side you can see additional topics. The issues brought to the site are wide-ranging, including criminal justice and poverty.
Issues raised on change.org are a good example of grassroots organizing. Individuals join the community and raise issues that matter to them. Change.org then helps members become supporters of nonprofits who are concerned about similar issues. Supporters can then donate to particular nonprofits, set up fund raising pages for their favorite organizations and participate in causes and actions. Anyone can start a petition and use it to both inform participants about causes they care about and ask supporters to take an action or communicate a stand on an issue.
The Georgia Center for Child Advocacy is a nonprofit participant in Change.org for a number of reasons. First, we believe that the issues of child sexual abuse are important and we want to use any venue we can to get the word out. Second, the folks at Change.org have created a way for people from all over the world to join together in support of things they care about and make a difference. If you look at our supporters on the site, we have 52 supporters from 21 states. Any change.org member can become our supporter and launch a fund raising page on our behalf, can donate to us at any time, and can subscribe to our newsletter. As with our other social media work, change.org is another new and innovative way to connect with people who care about what we do for sexually abused and severely physically abused children and their families.
The final reason we are members of change.org is that they offer us a simple and effect way to fund raise for our organization. For a nominal fee, Change.org (through Network for Good) processes our donations and handles the administrative functions. The best part is that it’s also easier for you. When you donate to any organization on change.org, you can access your donation report any time. So you have a year end report of your donations that you can use to file your income tax return! Pretty cool, huh?
The folks at change.org work hard to support nonprofits who participate, and all certified nonprofits are on the website and can receive donations. We consider Change.org a partner in our efforts for children and families. We offer you this option for your enjoyment (there is lots of cool stuff at Change.org) and your convenience.
