It’s 25 YEARS for heaven’s sake. The Georgia Center for Child Advocacy has been there for children who have been sexually abused for 25 years. We have been there for families and children, providing forensic interviews, therapy and training, all at no cost to our families. It seems to us that is something worth celebrating – and we can’t do it justice without all of you!

When you got the invitation to our 25th Anniversary Luncheon on April 26th at 11:30 at the Marriott Marquis, I can imagine the thoughts that went through your head.

I know the important work the center does. I know how difficult it is for any child who is a victim of child sexual abuse. I know that my support is critical for the center and for the children and families they serve.

I am a supporter of the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy and I already know this story. I will continue to offer my support, but I don’t need to go to this particular luncheon. They know I support them whether I am there or not.

You would be wrong. And here is the first reason why.

Marilyn VanDerbur is one of the most eloquent speakers you will ever hear. We can all say that we “know” about child sexual abuse, but it is imperative that we continue to hear from survivors who truly know. The experience of a former Miss America and a survivor of child sexual abuse is something you need to hear.

We had a wonderful time at the Cheer for Children Ball last Friday. There aren’t words to describe the fun we had, the food we ate, and the generosity of our supporters. Instead of trying to describe it, this is one time when a picture is worth 10,000 words! Take a look.

Wow – April was a busy month for the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy.

We were all inspired by Johnnetta McSwain, our speaker for our Change Maker’s Breakfast. It was truly an amazing event and her words will be remembered by everyone who was there for a very long time. Click here for all the photos.

Everyone who attended this breakfast became Change Makers. Whether you choose to donate, are already one of our donors, or just came to learn more about how you can help a child – thank you. We cannot make a difference in the lives of children and families without all of you.

We were saddened to end the month with a flag raising for 16 month old Samuel, who was killed by a caregiver. We work to remember him and to make him the last.
